Russia’s national carrier Aeroflot will submit its objections to the Commercial High Court on June 28, challenging the petition filed against it by Ireland-based Celestial Aviation, an aircraft leasing company.

On Monday, the court considered a motion filed by the Attorney General and suspended the enjoining order it issued on Thursday June 2 against Aeroflot.

Counsel for Aeroflot and second defendant Air Navigational Services’ Acting Chief N.C. Abeywardena contested the enjoining order, insisting that it was obtained by the plaintiff by misrepresenting facts.

The court was told that Aeroflot had the right to fly from Colombo in terms of a bilateral agreement with Russia.

The counsel also claimed that a junior lawyer representing the plaintiff and a court fiscal officer had used intimidation and misled Mr. Abeywardna in preventing the Aeroflot flight from taking off on Thursday June 2.

The fiscal officer involved has been suspended following the submissions in court.
