Bringing life back to Hot Dog Showdown:
HotDog Showdown is one of the biggest hotdog eating competitions in Sri Lanka organised by the Rotaract Club of Informatics Institute Technology, tailored for all the passionate foodies roaming the street. Along with the renowned HotDog eating competition, which was categorised as male, female and this year a new addition of couples. There were a variety of food stalls, entertainment, mini motor shows and celebrity appearances.Following tireless days, and months of prepping for the event, ensuring all requirements were met, HotDog showdown 2022 was successfully concluded on the 8th of May 2022 with a big bang. After years of being in lockdown and with the uncertainties and difficulties we had to face as a nation, this event came at the right time by contributing to being an opportunity to gather with friends and family, spending time eating, dancing, engaging in exciting games and making it a day to remember.
Owing to having to call off the event last year due to COVID-19 and the restrictions imposed in the country, Hotdog showdown 2022 was rebooted once again for the ninth year. The competition was brought to life again this year, with Trace expert city being flooded with hungry hotdog lovers determined in a friendly-competition to participate in the competition along with their loved ones who came to show their support. There was a wide array of stalls for the attendees from food, drinks to clothes and sunglasses, giving them a wide choice of variety to splurge their money on. Towards the evening the place overflowed by crowds that gathered to be entertained by the amazing line of 16 famous artists ready to perform. The night ended with sheer joyous exhaustion of just dancing and singing.
The main purpose of conducting this event was to gather funds in order to aid project E-mithudama, a community service project carried out by the Rotaract Club of IIT, which solely focuses on providing computer literacy to young students of underprivileged, rural schools in Sri Lanka.
