State of emergency ends; but armed forces will remain deployed

View(s):

A state of emergency declared on May 6, giving additional powers to the security forces to carry out searches and arrests, lapsed yesterday.

However, armed forces will remain deployed for security duties as the President has issued a fresh gazette, calling out armed forces to be deployed in all districts from today.  The gazette has been issued under powers vested in the President by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40). The deployment of the security forces under these powers has continued since the Easter attacks in 2019.
