A beleaguered President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, under fire to resign and not seen in public during the past few weeks came to honour the fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 30-year separatist insurgency that ended with the defeat of the LTTE on May 18, 2009. The President was Defence Secretary during the final days of that military campaign and is now Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. He is seen accompanied by the Commanders of the tri-Forces to the War Memorial at Sri Jayawadhanapura, Kotte on Tuesday. The President yesterday revoked the State of Emergency imposed due to the ongoing political turmoil in the country.
