In an era where all schoolchildren aspire to be either doctors, engineers or IT related professionals, RCU – Colombo has taken the initiative to broaden their horizons with the intention of guiding them on their future careers. In line with this concept, RCU–Colombo along with the school administration have decided to take the Grade 12 students to visit the factories of different industries operating with emerging modern technology.

As the first step, a group of Grade 12 students of Richmond College visited Leema factory in Kapugoda. Leema wood-based manufacturing plant is equipped with precise state of the art machinery based on German and Italian technology. The visit to Leema factory must have certainly changed students’ perception on wood-working and interior industry and carpentry.

M.G.U.K. Seneviratne, who is in-charge of Technology Section, coordinated the visit under the guidance of College Principal, P. S Pushpakumara. The 1st batch visited Leema factory on 1 Apr 2022. The objective of the visit was to make the students aware of new trends available in job market. At Leema factory, they were given an induction on how a modern wood working factory would operate. The General Manager-Factory took the students to all the sections and explained the processes there itself. In addition, Chairman of Leema, who is also a proud product of Richmond, delivered a lecture to motivate the students and inspire them so that they could plan the foundation for their future careers.
