The latest addition among these faculties of NSBM Green University, the Faculty of Science, expands the NSBM degree portfolio in the science discipline with the vision of being an academic community with excellence and impact in science and research. Consisting of a range of industry-related degree programmes, NSBM Faculty of Science is enriched with a well-qualified and highly accomplished full time as well a visiting lecture panel and state-of-the-art laboratories with high tech instrumentation facilities.
The Faculty of Science of NSBM presently functions with a single department, namely, the Department of Biomedical Science and conducts undergraduate degree programmes in the health science discipline. Currently, the department offers two University Grants Commission (UGC) approved four-year degree programmes:
n BSc Honours in Biomedical Science
n BSc Honours in Public Health and Nutrition
The Biomedical Science degree programme aims to sufficiently prepare the undergraduates to collaborate on scientific investigations of human structure and function in health and disease at a molecular, cellular, and whole systems level. This degree programme infusses the undergraduates with the skills they need to understand and investigate human biology and make a difference in human health in a wide variety of career paths. The graduates of this programme will have ample career opportunities as Biomedical Scientists and Healthcare Scientists in industries, research institutions and health care settings in various fields, including biochemistry, genetics, haematology and microbiology.
Public Health and Nutrition programme is designed for students who are committed to health promotion and disease prevention through healthy eating. The curriculum strongly emphasises food access, nutrition policy, community nutrition interventions/programmes, health disparities, nutrition assessment, and healthy eating throughout the life course. Public Health Nutrition professionals are involved in nutritional assessment, developing, implementing, and evaluating nutrition interventions, developing nutrition-related public health policies, and monitoring the health of individuals, communities and populations. There are also numerous opportunities to take on higher studies: higher level master’s or PhD research locally or internationally after successful completion of above degree programmes.
Both degree programmes are equipped with highly theoretical and practical knowledge with laboratory skills, making future-ready professionals. The curriculums blended mainly with biology, medicine, and chemistry prepare the student to match the dynamics in the job market. The students who have followed G.C.E. advanced level in the biological science stream (Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Agriculture) are welcome to join the NSBM Faculty of Science for the March 2022 intake and fulfil the dream of graduating with a world-recognised science qualification.
