The ancient Yapahuwa Kingdom, built during the 13 Century, has now been desecrated by plastic waste as the people who visited the ancient ruins have left behind empty bottles, face masks and plastic bags.

The archeologically invaluable site, which was built by King Buwanekabahu, has not been given proper consideration by tourists who ventured to the there following the lifting of the lengthy lockdown period(s).

The 90-metre high stair entrance built of stone has stood the test of time for over 800 years, but visitors are not concerned about protecting what is left of the monument.
