The retirement age for Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) engineering services has been extended from 60 to 61 years, according to a circular issued by General Manager (GM) M.R. Ranatunga.

The circular was issued after the director board at its October 12 meeting approved a special paper to grant the one-year service extension.

“The Board has decided that compulsory retirement age of Engineers of Engineering services in the CEB shall be 61 years with effect from 2nd November 2021,” the circular said .

However, CEB Engineers Union (CEBEU) President Saumya Kumarawadu told the Sunday Times that the CEB had no requirement of any service extension.

“It will affect promotions of young engineers and new recruits. Similarly, CEB needs not only mature engineers but also young blood who could think anew. This will mean that they will be deprived of career opportunities,” he said.
