UoK’s Faculty of Medicine celebrates 30 years

The inauguration ceremony of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the University of Kelaniya’s (UoK) Faculty of Medicine was held on April 05 at the faculty premises.

A photography exhibition under the theme “Building a fairer healthier world” was organised by UoK in collaboration with the World Health Organisation. It was held in the Faculty of Medicine’s library and the opening took place in the presence of World Health Organisation Acting Country Representative Olivia C. Nieveras.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the main auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine.

The welcome speech and the introduction to the 30th anniversary celebrations was delivered by Cadre Chair Janaki Hewavisenthi, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine–the Chair of 30th Anniversary Celebrations Organising Committee.

Student activities for the programme were briefed by Student Chair Minura Lakshitha.

The Green Practice Committee website was launched by Senior Prof. Janaki Hewavisenthi, together with the launching of the official website of the 30th Anniversary Celebrations taking place at the same time.

The planting of 30 endemic tree varieties at the faculty premises was also a significant part of this celebration.

UoK Vice Chancellor Nilanthi de Silva and Dr. Olivia C. Nieveras,graced the event as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively, together with the academic and non-academic staff members and students of the faculty.
