Consistent schoolboy from British School of Colombo, Yannik Kumara, stamped his class in tandem when he accounted for the overall winner’s award at the 114th Captain’s Cup which took place last weekend at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC).

Yannik had a major success when he was just 12 years, winning the same event in 2018.

Youngster, Nirekh Tejwani won the runner-up at the main event. In the Ladies event Anouk Chitty edged out youngster, Kayla Perera to second position.

Three airline tickets were awarded by SriLankan Airlines chairman, Ashoka Pathirage for the excellent service given by Capt. Navin de Silva for over 35 years for the airline. These giveaways were won by Mahendra Jayasekera, Chris Bowers and Anouk Chitty for the ‘Nearest to the Pin’ in the 4th, 9th and 15th holes.

The Captain’s Cup has been played since 1898 without interruption, other than during the war time between 1942 to 1947 and as tradition the members taking part is hosted at lunch by the Captain of the club. With the conclusion of this event, which will be the last as the club captain Navin de Silva, another veteran golfer, and banker Jehaan Ismail took over the Presidency of RCGC for 2021/2022 at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place on March 25.
