Jayanath Bandara presenter of ‘Ranga Bjoomi

The traditional singing sung during the 40 days of Lentern period specially in Westerb coastal areas like Negomob, Wennappuwa, Chilaw and in Maggona.

The programme was participated by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne who has extensively researched on this traditional singing styles and even compiled a book titled, ‘Carol, Pasan saha Kantharu’ and a number of veteran artistes and singers from Pitipana in Negomnbo.

St Cecilia Pasan group made vocal rendition at the Rangabhumi programme directed by Nalin Mapitiya and presented by theatre personality Jayanath Bandara.

Playwright Sisira Jayashantha together with Camilus Fernando, a veteran on traditional passion plays personality spoke on the traditions and practices related to passion plays and pasan singing. Mr. Fernando has a history to the times of when passion plays are performed using statues. Compiled by Susitha Fernando
