The quorum for the five member Parliamentary Council would be three members, it was decided at the inaugural meeting of the council on Thursday.

The council’s five members include the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader, an MP appointed by the Prime Minister, an MP appointed by the Opposition Leader. It is headed by the Speaker.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister appointed Minister Douglas Devananda as his nominee, while the Opposition leader’s nominee is Kabeer Hashim.With Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywaedena presiding the meeting, the members at their first meeting focused on a framework to function as mandated under the 20th Amendment.
