The G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination will be held from January 18 to 28 next year as planned earlier, Education Minister G. L. Peiris said.

The G.C.E A/L examination which began on October 12 ended this Friday amidst curfew imposed in the Western province.

Even though Government schools were to begin the third term of the school year on November 8, the reopening of schools was postponed by two weeks due to the increased number of COVID cases. However, no decision has been taken on an exact date for re opening.

At a meeting held among educational officials on Friday, it was decided that when schools do re open it will only be with 50 percent student capacity, while ensuring physical distancing and  other COVID health guidelines.

Guidelines issued by the Health Ministry state that schools should be closed at risk level three. If the risk level comes down to level two, schools would be allowed to re-open only for students in grade nine and above.
