This week, representatives of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and SriLankan Airlines held discussions about further collaboration avenues and opportunities to improve the BSc (Hons.) in Aircraft Maintenance degree.

The Degree is currently offered by KDU in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Aviation College (SLAC) – the training arm of the national carrier.

KDU Vice Chancellor Milinda Peiris and SriLankan Airlines CEO Vipula Gunatilleka held a meeting with SLAC’s top management and senior academics from KDU’s Department of Aeronautical Engineering.

A KDU spokesperson said undergraduates of this degree programme undergo EASA certified basic training in aircraft maintenance at SLAC in their first two years , and then proceed to KDU for further academic studies.

“This venture is a long outstanding requirement of the country, and it is expected to groom aircraft maintenance professionals with a sound academic and practical exposure. Further, the degree programme is open to all who are interested in joining the aircraft maintenance industry”, they said.
