As lockdown eases and schools prepare to reopen, it’s a good time to take stock and look at the likely future of education. Children who start school from now on, will grow up to be leaders in a digital-first world that will demand new skills and innovative ways of thinking.

Mr. Malith Kumarasinghe - Coordinating Principal - Wycherley International School - Gampaha

“We at Wycherley, stepped into online education from 20th of April, with the commencement of the 3rd Term. We kept the doors to learning open, through online classes so that kids will be on track and will not miss out while they are at home.

COVID-19 has made us review our academic tools and geared the academic staff to better project their subjects to students, through these online teaching methods. Most children are now technologically advanced and prepared for online learning platforms.

My team at Wycherley International School – Gampaha is constantly up to date by reviewing new online teaching resources conducted by Cambridge International Examinations. As a School that follows an Internationally recognized curriculum, it has been easy for us to train and develop our teachers and update our resources during this pandemic.

Even during this challenging time, our Academic staff took part in webinars and online trainings that were conducted by Cambridge and other academic sources. The resilience, high adaptability level, support for one another and positivity shown by our students, staff and parents have been most encouraging.

My teachers have also kept in touch with all children. They have been given time slots to clarify any doubts they might have after their online classes. Apart from online teaching, we have shared online assessments to keep a tab to see if kids have actually engaged in their work and for teachers to get a feedback on how effective the lesson plans are.

I am also happy to announce that we are now ready to accept new admissions for the commencement of the new Academic year and we welcome all parents to contact us through our web page www.wycherleygampaha.lk to connect with our admissions team.  You can also request to schedule a discussion with me to discuss your child’s future plans and to obtain more information on the Cambridge advantage at Wycherley.

With the commencement of the new academic year on 24th of August 2020, Wycherley International School Gampaha will be successfully completing a year of switching to a total Cambridge Education platform. All students have adopted to the new curriculum and will sit for their first series of Cambridge Examinations in May/June 2021. Further, our Computer lab and Science labs will be upgraded to ensure that our students get the best facilities in preparation for Cambridge exams.

Although school is reopening, we will also keep our digital teaching platform active as well. We have classrooms equipped to cater to several online platforms. We have scheduled to include a series of revision classes in the month of July which is usually a holiday period at Wycherley. This is also to support students who found it difficult with online classes.

In addition, we have taken the best possible measures in terms of ensuring health and safety for both students and staff in the light of COVID -19. Before the commencement of school we will also educate the kids on how they need to adjust to new norms the school will be following while they are at school.

We at Wycherley look forward to welcoming our students back and progressing forward in this new post global pandemic era with utmost enthusiasm!
