St. Peter’s College held a felicitation ceremony for their rugby sponsors who are backing them for the 2020 season at Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

It was a gala evening with two ‘Gold’ sponsors namely Kotmale and Trip A Deal, a leading tour operator from Australia represented in Sri Lanka by the country’s leading travel and hospitality partners Aitken Spence Travels Ltd. Then, there was a ‘Silver’ sponsor too EFL3PL who are the logistics arm of Expolanka supporting the Peterites to be on top of the premier rugby playing schools in the island. The Principal Sponsor of Peterite rugby is Themiya de Mel who has been making handsome contributions towards the development of the College.

Kotmale, a leading dairy-based company in Sri Lanka has been with Peterite rugby for the last three years and has renewed their sponsorship package this year for further three years.

Aitken Spence Travels Ltd on behalf of their partner Trip A Deal in Australia has come forward with a ‘Gold’ sponsorship as part of their commitment to engage with local communities.

EFL 3PL has partnered with Peterite Rugby with the idea of helping to groom a new breed of professionals into the corporate world.

Themiya de Mel had been financially backing the College in different projects like the state-of-the-art 3700-seater stadium with world–class facilities which includes indoor cricket nets, a gymnasium, dressing rooms and medical facilities.

One of the first schools to start rugby in Sri Lanka, Peterite Rugby has carved a strong name with a quality brand of rugby during the past 88 years. Finishing as runner-up in the schools rugby league in 2019, St. Peter’s led by Yohan Fernando as their first XV rugby captain for the year 2020 is eyeing the league title which they lost by a single point in 2019. They successfully retained the Milo President’s Trophy knockout title defeating Wesley in the final.

The Peterite team is led by  fourth-year player Yohan, a utility forward. Senura Perera and utility back Dilshan Madushanka will be the side’s deputies. Sanath Martis is head coach assisted by Rajive Perera and Banuka Nanayakkara.
