Trishaw driver suffers fatal injuries after backhoe crashes into vehicle
View(s):A 46-year-old trishaw driver was crushed to death following an accident with a backhoe, Colombo Coroner’s Courts reported last week.
The incident took place on March 8, when a backhoe crashed on to the three-wheeler which was parked near a road. The three-wheeler driver was seated at the driver’s seat when this happened and was trapped inside the vehicle.
Following the accident, the victim was admitted to the National Hospital, but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the accident ward.
The deceased was identified as Chandra Kumaran, a father of three children. He was a resident of Sapumal Place, Sedawatte. The Judicial Medical Officer who conducted the postmortem, S K Ganewatte said the victim’s death occurred due to excessive bleeding from damages in the chest and abdominal areas.
The City Coroner M Ashroof Rumi ordered the Gothatuwa Police to produce the backhoe driver before the Coroner’s Courts on Wednesday, March 18.
