The 86th Battle of the Saints between traditional rivals St. Joseph’s and St. Peter’s played at the P. Sara Stadium concluded in a tame draw. In fact the outcome of the match was visible at the end of the first day’s play with the Peterites making 224 and the Josephians ending the day on 191 for 4.

The Josephians resuming their innings on day two saw the overnight pair Dineth Jayakody and Sadeesh Jayasinghe adding a further 44 runs before the pair was separated with the dismissal of Jayakody. He made 122 runs off 133 balls and hit 13 boundaries and three sixes. He was involved in a valuable 192 run stand for the fifth wicket with Jayasinghe.

Jayasinghe did not stay long as he was dismissed at the same score of 235 runs. He made 70 that included five boundaries and a six. Josephians lost their remaining four wickets for the addition of 24 runs as they were bowled out for 259 runs.

St. Peter’s batting the second time underwent some anxious moments before Rishika Santhush (69) and Nipuna Fonseka (47) rescued the side with a fourth wicket stand of 66 runs. Later in the innings Ruvin Seneviratne and Danal Hemananda featured in an unbroken 88 runs stand for the ninth wicket and the match was called off with the Josephian supporters invading the field after Hemananda reached his half ton.
