Kumar Sangakkara appointed Director of International Scholar
View(s):Since 1999, International Scholar has placed over 2500 students at highly prestigious institutes in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, Dubai, Singapore, USA, the UK and Vietnam.
Founded 20 years ago by its Chairman Mr. Keerthi Jayasuriya, in a small house in Bambalapitiya, International Scholar now sits proudly within a modern office in its own large building complex.
It also provides an excellent service, boasting 4.9 on Google Reviews from almost 300 independent reviews, the most for any similar organisation in Sri Lanka. Further, International Scholar has established very close links with leading schools and higher education institutes in Sri Lanka.
“Our success is grounded in the ethical and free counselling service we provide to students – we put their interests first, as we know we are dealing with their futures,” says Mr. Jayasuriya.
This ethical and excellent service is what encouraged Kumar Sangakkara, current MCC President, LMD Sri Lankan of the year and cricketing legend, to accept a Directorship at International Scholar.
“I don’t take Directorships in companies lightly. What drew me to International Scholar was primarily their focus on providing a free, ethical and excellent counselling service to students, as well as my confidence in the International Scholar team.”
Mr. Jayasuriya states “We are delighted that Kumar has accepted an invitation to join the International Scholar Board”. He also highlights that International Scholar has not previously focused extensively on marketing. “Over 90% of our clients come through word of mouth. This is a testament to our staff, many of whom have been with us for over 5 years and some for over 10 years. Yet we understand to provide services to more students, we need to begin marketing our brand. While Kumar will clearly contribute on that front, we are already also witnessing the benefits of his general strategic advice.”
International Scholar’s revamped leadership team will also include Dr. Dinuk Jayasuriya. Dinuk holds a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University, has previously worked for the World Bank Group, in academia and as a consultant to the United Nations and Asian Development Bank. He is also Founding Director of Crystal Sands, which is building a condo-hotel in Galle.
