The Higher Education Ministry is planning to set up a new IT park in Hambantota for high tech innovations, Higher Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.

The building for the IT park was completed in 2015, but the former government had not taken any measures to complete the building and go ahead with opening it.

Some 3,500 students could be accommodated with hostel facilities and some Rs. two billion was spent for the project so far.

The Minister said plans are underway to complete the project this year and allow students to complete a degree from the Institute.    “This will become the largest IT campus in Sri Lanka”, he said.   -DW
