It was a dream come true for former Dharmaraja College, Kandy batsman,  ICC Level III coach  and founder of Colts Cricket Academy in Bahrain, Sidath Tennakoon, when the Mayor of Matara, Ranjith Yasarathna cut the ribbon to declare open the indoor nets of Stallion Sports in Welegoda, Matara .

The indoor cricket nets in Matara is Stallion’s first operation in Sri Lanka. Stallion Sports is a subsidiary of Colts Crickets Academy and operates cricket academies in Qatar and Singapore as well.

Addressing well wishers who attended the opening at Matara Tennakoon said that at Colts and Stallion academies coaching is not merely restricted to improving techniques but emphasis given to developing mental strength, discipline and education.

He said that the academies organise cricket tournaments both locally and internationally, and had put in place a player exchange programme and gives much empasis to coach development programmes.

“It’s a well trained and knowledgeable academy that can mentor a player,” he added.

Tennakoon’s individual score of 252 runs in 1990 and a 54-ball century in 1991 in the Schools Under-19 Division I tournament are yet to be beaten by a Rajan cricketer.
