A near pollution-free election

The run-up to the Presidential election was smooth. The main parties and other candidates all conducted environmentally friendly election campaigns.

However, amid the euphoria of electoral victory some failed to realise the election had been conducted without the use of polythene and with little or no pollution accompanying the event.

Some persons lit firecrackers with no thought for the pollution left in its aftermath, or the litter left on the streets for street cleaners to clear the next day.

However, there were also a few civic minded persons who took the trouble to clear the streets after the celebrations.

With more elections coming up next year people should remain conscious of the example set by the presidential candidates who ensured that environmentally friendly campaigns were carried out in the run-up to the election.
