‘Palingu Piyapath’ takes wings

‘Palingu Piyapath’ (Mirrors and Feathers), the latest teledrama directed by Benette Ratnayake, a story depicting the destiny of two orphan children who have the same beginning but meet two contasting ends, is now being telecast on every Saturday and Sunday at 8.30 pm.

Woven around two children Pradeep and Mubaraq who are bought up in an orphanage, ‘Palingu Piyapath’ narrates how the two take two completely different paths. Pradeep is an unruly child who regularly gets into fights with others. However he stands by Mubaraq who is innocent and timid.

One day Pradeep together with Mubaraq runs away from the orphanage and they end up in a garage owned by an underworld character, Peries Baas. Peries keeps Pradeep who looks physically stronger with him and gives Mubaraq to a shop in the city.

Peries is an experienced mechanic and he is also a contract killer working for the underworld. Under the guidance of Peries, Pradeep becomes a well-trained mechanic and following the footstep of Peries he becomes a contract killer as well.

Pradeep is in love with Thamara, who works in a garment factory and lives in a slum. But she is unaware about his dual identities. Getting caught with a crime Peries is sentenced to a long prison term and his wife Susila takes over his business. Pradeep helps major robberies and murders undertaken by Susila. She accepts a job to kill a corrupt politician and the mission is handed over to Pradeep. During the murder, Pradeep misses his target and an innocent clerk is killed.

The murder takes place while the clerk is collecting money to save his daughter who is undergoing a critical stage of a cancer. For the first time in his life Pradeep starts to regret for what he has done. Depressed by his act, Pradeep decides to spend his life to save the ailing child and he even decides to change his life. But his decision is threatened by the underworld itself.

Mubaraq, Pradeep’s childhood friend too helps him in this endeavour. But ‘Palingu Piyapath’ takes a dramatic turn.

The teledrams is played by Amila Karunanayake, Rashiprabha Sandeepani, Madhani Malwatte, Lal Kularatne, Nirosha Thalagala, Anuruddha Jayasinghe, Jayantha Muthuthanthri, Udara Ratnayake, Sakura Wimalasena, Chandika Nanayakkara, Milinda Perera, Sujatha Alahakone,Rupa Pathirana, Sangith PRabhu, Nelka Samanthi and Madh Dilhani Weerasinghe.

Produced by Samanmalee Hewamanna and Benette Ratnayake, the screenplay is written by Priyantha Ishwara, camera by Sanjeewa Kumara, editor-Achila Prabath Subasinghe and assistant director is Chaminda Hewamanna. To the lyrics of Bandula Nanayakkarawasam and music direction of Dinesh Subasinghe, playback songs are sung by Dumal Warnakulasuriya.
