5,000 more students to receive Grade 5 Scholarship bursaries

Grade 5 Scholarship bursaries is to be increased to 20,000 students from the present 15,000.

Also, in another move, the parents/guardian monthly income bracket has been increased from Rs. 4,500 to Rs. 15,000, as a criterion to receive the payment.

Cabinet granted approval to increase the monthly payment by Rs. 250, to Rs.750, backdated from January 2019, and will be paid from Grades 6-13. This will also include 250 ‘Special Needs’ children who qualify at the Grade 5 Scholarship exams.

The Education Ministry said a sum of Rs. 300 million has been allocated to pay arrears to 15,000 students who stand to gain by the Rs. 250 monthly increase in their bursary.  - CC
