An in-house workshop on Conservation Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP) for Sri Lanka Reptiles, Key Biodiversity Areas (KBS) and Conservation Needs Assessment (CAN) is being held from September 14 to 19, at the Simpson’s Hotel, Meenawatte Estate, Elkaduwa in Wattegama.

The workshop is conducted by well-known scientists proficient in IUCN Red Listing and these assessments and include Dr. Sanjay Molur of the Zoo Outreach Organization, India who will be assisted by  Priyanka Iyer and S.R. Ganesh and Dr. Neil Ashley Cox, Dr. Marcelo Fabio Tognelli, Dr. Philip Michael Bowles and Dr. Claudine from Conservation International, United Kingdom. The local organiser is Dr. Anslem de Silva who was recently honoured at an International Symposium held at Thulhiriya as the ‘Father of modern herpetology in Sri Lanka’. He is supported by Suranjan Karunarathna and Dr. Kanishka Ukuwela.

With many local experts participating, the report produced at the conclusion of the workshop will be an important document for the Department of Wildlife Conservation, IUCN, wildlife managers and research workers.
