Western Province (WP) won the inter provincial Wushu Championship at the 45th National Sports Festival worked off at the Kamburupitiya Sports Complex, Matara recently.

Winning four gold, four  silver and a bronze enabled WP clinch the championship, while Southern Province (SP) finished second with three  gold, two silver and two  bronze, and Uva Province with three gold, two silver and three bronze occupied the 3rd spot.

The Best Thaolu Player award for Men was won by M.M.R.M. Jayasinghe of Wayamba Province and Gihani Wathsala of SP won the Best Woman Thaolu Player.

In the Sandra 60kg category, Nuwan Pathum Balawardana of Sabaragamuwa Province won Gold in the Men’s category and W.P.M. Madumali of WP won Gold in the 56kg category for Women, and was adjudged Best Woman Player.

SP Director of Sports Bandula Abeysekera was the Chief Guest while the Guest of Honour was Sri Lanka Wushu Federation President and International Wushu Federation Adjudicator Manel Dharmakeerthi.

In his address, the President said this event enabled them to recognise up-and-coming Thaolu players. The Federation intends to include them in the National pool for the forthcoming South Asian Games.
