Three CR&FC players have upped and flown away to the cooler environs of Nittawela. Kavindu Perera, last season’s CR skipper, Tarinda Ratwatte and ex-Isipathana player Sumudu Rankothge have thrown in their lot with Kandy Sports Club (KSC).

According to the Chairman of the KSC Rugby Committee, Lasantha Wijesuriya, CR will not be hard done by because of this ‘minor’ exodus. Some players from neighbouring CH&FC and Havelocks will be donning the Red Jersey. Club loyalty has flown out of the window, as money talks.

On the playing front, what is refreshing about CR is the presence of so many richly talented youngsters. Kevin Dixon, a brilliant fullback cum three-quarter tops the lot.

Chamod Fernando, Harith Bandara (ex Isipathana), Sri Lanka Under-19 skipper Gemunu Chethiya, Royal’s explosive centre Janindu Dilshan et al should make the CR an extremely watchable side.

Rugby fans will have to possess their souls in patience for about a further 2 months. The coming season should provide exciting Rugby.
