Two women poisoned then robbed in Thalpawila, Matara
View(s):Police are probing a case where an elderly woman was injected with poison and another was force-fed a poisonous drink. Police suspect the women were killed to rob them of their gold chains.
The elderly victim was identified as H B Karunawathi, a mother of eight, residing in the house belonging to the youngest son. The son and his wife had gone to work while the two women remained at home.
According to reports, an unknown couple had entered the house in Thalpawila, and injected a poisonous substance into the 73-year-old woman which resulted in her death. The postmortem of Ms H B Karunawathi was conducted at the Matara hospital. Matara police said investigations were ongoing.
