Batticaloa private campus project put on hold

A project to construct a private campus in a 20-acre Batticaloa land provided by the state to the Ameer Ali Foundation has been put on hold on a directive of District Secretary M. Udayakumar.

He told the Sunday Times the project had been put on hold following complaints that the land had been allocated for the campus despite the area’s people not having land for resettlement.

In 2017, the land was allocated to the foundation headed by Agriculture State Minister Ameer Ali to build a campus with foreign funding.

The land is located in Ottamavadi, about 40 kilometers from Batticaloa town in the Kalkudha electorate.

Mr. Ameer Ali said he was planning to set up a vocational training institute for all communities.

However, Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian S. Viyalendren said the land was meant for displaced people who were waiting to be resettled.
