The Western Provincial Education Ministry (WPEM) will put into effect a 5-year master plan for schools in the province aimed at all educational levels, a senior ministry official said.

The plan, which will be monitored online, will have details of infrastructure development plans, financial allocations, teacher requirements, examination results analysis, among others, Deputy Director (Planning), WPEM Prabath Vithanage told Education Times.

He said, under the current system, each school had separate plans, but under the new scheme all schools will have a common plan which will be implemented and monitored. “The advantage will be some 1,300 will be monitored online under the system. The statistics will be updated in real time,” he said.

He added that, with the statistics available, they will be able to provide necessary facilities, including the filling of teacher vacancies in a speedy manner.

Mr Vithanage said that the system was developed after a 3-year programme. “If there are other provinces interested in the system we will be willing to share the programme,” he added.
