The Special Task Force (STF) has been deployed to thirty ministries to enhance security, Police Headquarters said last week.
The STF deployment will supplement Police officers already assigned to the ministries.

The move comes in the wake of information that some MPs who held ministerial portfolios were making attempts to return and resume duties.
“They are deployed as a ‘preventive measure,” Police Spokesman, SP Ruwan Gunasekara said. Several STF teams are also on standby to respond to any necessity around Colombo a senior police officer said.

Security for the parliament and the Speaker’s residence will remain as before. Commenting on the police involvement in the fracas at Parliament last Friday, Superintendent Gunasekara pointed out that the officers of the Parliamentary Security Division responded to a request by the Speaker of the House to provide protection to conduct the Parliamentary sessions.
