JVP will not support either party

The JVP, yesterday, said that it would not support either of the main parties which would try to show their strength in parliament to secure the Prime Ministerial position. JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a news conference that the coalition government of Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinge had shattered the expectations of the people, the political parties and social movements that had brought them to power defeating the one-family rule.

He said they both wanted power and therefore formed a coalition government, but they completely ignored the people’s mandate.“In that mandate there were promises given to punish the corrupt, yet both of them protected the corrupt. Apart from that they also promised they would lead the country without fraud and corruption,” he said.

However, the Prime Minister and a team of his associates engaged in large scale corruption and had little regard to the expectations of the people.
He said President Sirisena has ignored the people’s interests and decided to shake hands with his enemies. This shows the ugly side of conspiracy in Sri Lankan politics, he said.
