AG wants Shashi Weerawansa to report to the CID
The Attorney General (AG) has made an application to the Chief Magistrate of Colombo, seeking an alteration in the order made against Shashi Weerawansa, wife of MP and leader of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, Wimal Weerawansa , directing her to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), instead of the court registrar.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the AG, stated that the accused Ms Weerawansa must report to the CID. She has not faced any incident that requires her to report to some other place. As the charges against her are grave, it required a change in the bail conditions.
DSG Peiris further stated that an order requiring an accused to report to the police or CID is made to check whether he or she has tried to influence a witness, or whether the accused is attempting to leave the country, and to stop any such activity, while reporting to the Registrar will not stop any such activity.
