Reminiscing cricket with Thilak

This is the title of the latest book which has been launched by cricket writer Thilak de Silva.  De Silva has taken a lot of effort to make this good reading material and the book “Reminiscing cricket with Thilak” aptly caters to it.

In its foreword another well-known cricket writer Mahinda Wijesinghe says “Thilak captained Ananda College in 1966 and played along with players in the calibre of Sunil Wettimuny, Lalith Gunaratne and was picked to play in the Ceylon Schools Cricket Xl captained by Anura Tennekoon in 1964.”

The articles cover many interviews that de Silva has conducted with former national cricketers like Bandula Warnapura, Sidath Wettimuny, Anura Tennekoon, Brendon Kuruppu and the list runs down to the current national cricket captain Dinesh Chandimal.

However it must be said that Thilak de Silva also has penned down a few lines on the talent of national women’s cricketer Chamari Athapattu.

A paragraph on Athapattu that caught my eye was “It was interesting to note how Chamari willed herself to do well against the Aussies. She said that she has failed against them in the past and back she went to the drawing board and found out how and why she got out. With steely determination she ironed out her shortcomings one by one and the end result was a mammoth knock of 178”.

In short it caters to the cricket connoisseur.
