Thimothi Nithushan heroics, rounded by the reliable Thevakumar brothers, Clinton and Brent, steered Commercial Credit & Finance (CC&F) to a well earned 57-52 win, after leading 27-20 at halftime, over MAS Holdings (MASH) ‘A’, in the ongoing 28th Mercantile Services Basketball Association League Tournament 2018, Men’s ‘A’ Division, continued at Sir Henry Pedris and SJC courts, last week.

This is CC&F’s 2nd win, having earlier beaten DFCC Bank, 59-50, with the Thevakumar brothers excelling.

Nithushan top scored with 17 points, while the Thevakumar brothers contributed 12 points each. Andrew Alphosus (18) and Sudesh Ahamed (15) played their hearts out for MAS.

In the Men’s ‘B’ Division, Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) scored a hard fought 56-52 win over SriLankan Airlines (SriLankan) ‘A’, after leading, 22-15 at halftime. In another Men’s ‘B’ Division match, Seylan Bank (Seylan) finished on the right side of the ledger, beating Nations Trust Bank (NTB) ‘Blacks’, 60-55, after leading 27-23 at halftime.

In the Men’s ‘C’ Division, Devon Rebert with 30 points was outstanding in Union Bank’s (UB) 61-58 win over HSBC Sri Lanka (HSBC). With an improved performance in the 2nd half, NDB Bank (NDB) turned tables on Ranawana & Co. (R&C) beating them 66-54.

Mihiraj Rajapaksa was in full flow in the 4th quarter, as Kanrich Finance (Kanrich) pipped John Keells Holdings (JKH) 56-54.

The experience of Chamath Dhanawansa helped Sampath Bank (Sampath) pip Akbar Bros. (Akbars) 38-37.

Never-say-die Asma Cader with 15 points propelled WS02 Sri Lanka (WSO2) to a heart-stopping 19-18 win over IFS & R&D International (IFS & R&D), who held a 7 points lead at halftime (10-3) in their Women’s ‘B’ Division match.

SCB and MASH emerged victorious in their Women’s ‘B’ Division matches.
