The All Island Lanka Plate snooker tournament which got underway at the Moors Sports Club billiards saw M. Farhan of Galle record back to back wins to qualify to the third round.
Farhan recorded his first win in the morning when he overcame D.P Ranasinghe of Air force in a closely contested game by three frames to two in the five frame encounter and then followed it up with another close win against A. Gazzali of Kandy in the evening session.
W.M.P. Pushpakumara of ICSC, Ashiq Hussain of Moors SC who won the Colombo District tournament a few days ago and H.A.M. Rimzan of YMCA chalked up easy 3-0 wins over D. John of Kandy, Riyas Noor his club mate and P. Guruge of Galle.
The other matches played in the two sessions saw M.R.T. Chandana (BRC), M.M. Rikas (OAC), E.T.N. Soyza (Army), S.S. Dinuruwan (Army) and M.N.M. Izam (Starlight) coming out victorious.
The All Island Lanka Plate snooker conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka and sponsored by U.W. Sumathipala and Group of Companies contested by 40 cueists around the island is the final tournament to select the cueists and the last 16 players will qualify to play in the forthcoming 66th National Snooker Championship due to be played in late October.
The two seven frames semi finals of the All Island Lanka Plate will be played on October 23 from 9.00 a.m. and the nine frames final is slotted to be played the same day in two sessions at 1.00 p.m. (4 frames) and 3.00 p.m. (5 frames) at the same venue.
