The 11th Korean Speech Contest organized by the KOICA Office in Sri Lanka, was held recently the Colombo Public Library Auditorium. Additional Director General- Ministry of National Policies & Economic Affairs, Mrs N.R. Anees, KOICA Country Director in Sri Lanka, Lee Dong Ku and other distinguished guests participated in the event.

Twelve contestants who passed the preliminary test, showed their proficiency in spoken Korean on several themes. In addition, Korean Culture Expo and K-Culture Video displays enhanced the festival occasion.

As social, economic and cultural exchanges between Korea and Sri Lanka keep expanding, Sri Lankans’ interests in Korea are also growing. KOICA has been organising this event for more than 10 years, to promote Sri Lankan people’s awareness of the Korean Language and its culture, thereby promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries.

“More Sri Lankan youth who learn Korean language and understand Korean culture in depth, can enhance the close relationship between the two countries, by sharing Korean development experience”, said Mr Lee.

This annual contest is held as a part of KOICA volunteers programme to strengthen Sri Lanka’s human resources development and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries. Currently, there are more than 50 KOICA volunteers serving in Colleges, Universities and Colleges of Technology islandwide.
