Tenders are awarded, staff trained and everyone is in the driver’s seat but the wait continues for Sri Lanka Tourism’s digital campaign to take off.

Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Managing Director Sutheash Balasubramaniam said that within the next two weeks Track 1 of the digital campaign is likely to kick off showcasing footage of videos on social media sites.

Track 2 of the digital campaign would involve the full blown creatives that would start from November 1 for a period of six months, he said.

Staff at the bureau was trained by the experts in the field to ensure they would be capable of handling the campaign once it gets underway, he said.

Meanwhile the Rs.5 million promotion with Raid Amazon was scheduled to kick off yesterday (Saturday) with the participation of 40 countries.

Women from all parts of the globe were involved in this extensive marathon that entailed canoeing, running and biking along the East coast of the island with the event scheduled to get underway in Passikudah.

In addition, promotions underway to attract visitors under the Island Escapes campaign during the low season from the Middle East, China and India is currently gaining momentum.

Mr. Balasubramaniam noted that Indians were the highest number of travellers that have picked up on the campaign with most holidaymakers willing to take on six or seven night stays as opposed to shorter visits.
