Rs 1,200m for Human Resources development in Education sector

The Ministry of Education (MoE) will be allocated Rs 1,200 million for Human Resources development, for continuous professional development in the Education sector. Under this programme, Principals, Teachers, Lecturers, Zonal Educational Directors and others in the sector, will be sent overseas on short term Training programmes.

“This Training will take place mainly in Asian countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, China and Japan, while some will be in Europe too,” said MoE Additional Secretary (School Affairs) Ashoka Hewage. Those wanting to pursue Master’s programme will also be granted opportunities under this programme.

This year, 218 officials have gone overseas to date, for Leadership programmes on school based Management for Principals, fostering facilities of Creative Invention in Education Capacity Building of Special Education professional etc. Another 538, including 50 students, will be sent overseas by the end of the year. The students will go to Singapore, under a programme to encourage students to read. - DW
