For the first time in the history of sports in Sri Lanka, an inter-house sports meet was organised for the alumni of St. Mary’s College Negombo by its Old Boys Association. Held on June 16, Dayan Lanza, the Mayor of the Negombo Municipal Council was present as the chief guest at the event, and Janitha Surath, the former captain of the National Volleyball team attended as the Guest of Honour. Rev. Fr. Rector Jayantha Wickramasinghe was also present among the distinguished guests.

The event started at 7:30am at St. Mary’s playground with the lighting of the Olympic Lamp, which was carried from the Main Street Chapel to the playground along the main street. Then followed the usual sports events, but in a different way altogether. The energetic youngsters were no more but all participants gave a fitting tribute to their participation with spirited performances in their respective events. The event was met with the enthusiastic participation of many Maryites, and was a massive success. - Pix by M.D. Nissanka
