Rohan Sanjaya of Tissa Central College, Kalutara, is a rare type of bowler, representing a school with the minimum facilities, was adjudged Emerging Schools’ Best Bowler. Just reward for his courage and dedication towards his unfailing contribution to his alma mater during the 2017/18 season.

He is a dual purpose bowler who re-enters the attack as first change spinner, with the shine still on. This lad bagged 113 wickets last season and was chiefly responsible for the school registering 7 outright victories.

Sanjaya became the 5th bowler from this Kalutara school to capture over 100 wickets in a season, and that too, on matting wickets.

With the new ball, left arm Sanjaya has the ability to move the ball away and into the batsman, keeping them guessing, and not allowing them to settle down. His chief weapon is his spinners, possessing a carrom ball and an arm ball, bowling to an attacking field. Most of his wickets have come off close-in catches.

He pays high tribute to his fielders who have never let him down in the field, enabling him reach the 100-wickets milestone.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Sanjaya is confident that Tissa Central College will be a team to be reckoned with, if they play on turf wickets in the future.

Captaining the side next season, Sanjaya hopes to continue from where he left this year, leading the side from the front by example, and inspiring his team to greater heights.
