Global Partnership for Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) and the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) held “GPPAC-RCSS Week” from June 4-8 in Colombo. The main aim of the programmes held throughout the week was to convey the importance of ‘Conflict-Prevention’ and ‘Peace-Building’ to the public, the organisers stated.

The events presented an opportunity to scholars, academics and members of civil society to participate. The events held throughout the week included GPPAC International Steering Group (ISG) Meeting – 2018, conference on “Trends in Youth Radicalization in South Asia,” and Regional Steering Group (RSG) Meeting GPPAC South Asia.

The ISG is the global governing body of GPPAC. Thirty three experts from GPPAC participated at the meeting, which was hosted by RCSS for the first time in South Asia. The conference on “Trends in Youth Radicalisation in South Asia” aimed to identify the diverse trends and processes in ‘Youth Radicalisation’ in South Asia, in order to propose strategies on how to promote positive ‘Youth Radicalization’ and encourage ‘Empowerment of Youth in South Asia’.

The main objective of the RSG meeting meanwhile, was to discuss the identified country-country activity in 2018 and also, to plan out activities of GPPAC South Asia network for 2019. GPPAC based in The Hague, The Netherlands, consists of civil society organisations which actively contribute to the topic of ‘Conflict-Prevention’. It is organised around 15 regional networks of local organisations.

Established in 1992, RCSS is a South Asian regional Think Tank based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which marks its 25th anniversary. The work of the organization is centred around Research and Dialogue on a broad range of Security and Strategic issues endemic to the region.
Since the inception of GPPAC in 2003, RCSS has been the GPPAC’s Regional Secretariat for the South Asian region.
