Wildlife officials chase back three elephants into Hambantota sanctuary

The Wild Life Department carried out a special operation on Friday night to chase away three wild elephants who had entered the Dehempura area in Beragama in Ambalantota.

The elephants had entered the villages and destroyed some of the plantations, villagers complained.

The jumbos had moved out of the wildlife sanctuary area in Hambantota and entered the villages.

Wildlife officials undertook the operation to chase the elephants back to the sanctuary and succeeded in doing so after a few hours.
