Creepers and wild plants abound, giving the appearance of a jaded neglected scrub jungle.

The roads are in a terrible state of disrepair. Pot-holes filled with rain water and thick undergrowth, provide excellent breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The onslaught of the present monsoonal rains has worsened the situation with the unrepaired roads inconveniencing pedestrians and not particularly helpful in attracting tourists

Overgrown creepers cover utility poles from top to bottom, twisting and curling around overhead electric wires.

Frequent disruption of electricity and telephone connections worsen the situation.

Despite over 50 members sitting in the Beruwala Urban Council, they have not been able to resolve the problems faced by residents and visitors alike.

An accident waiting to happen. Authorities have not noticed the overgrown creepers covering utility poles and the electric wires

Parts of the town resemble more a rain forest than a city

Uncleared garbage, potholes filled with water add to the obvious neglect of the town

Last week Photo Focus highlighted the neglect at ‘Ape Gama’. Within days of the expose authorities cleared mounds of polythene and other garbage
