The Office of Missing Persons (OMP) has been brought under the purview of the National Unity and Coexistence State Minister A.H.M. Fowzie. Presidential Secretary Austin Fernando issued the gazette on behalf of President Maithripala Sirisena assigning the subjects and OMP functions to Mr. Fowzie’s Ministry.

The Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR), the chairperson of which is former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, too, will come under the purview of this ministry. The ministry is entrusted with maintaining a dialogue with the Government, business and non-governmental sectors to obtain views and participate in the programmes implemented by the ONUR.

It will also intervene where necessary in the implementation of proposals of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) of Inquiry while establishing contacts with the international community with a view to obtaining expertise and financial assistance.
