PM to request Parliament debate on Bond Report on February 8

Prime Minister (PM) Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday said he would request Parliament be summoned on Feb.8 to debate Reports of the Bond Commission and the Commission on large scale Corruption.
“I think it is appropriate to have the debate on Feb.8, as most MPs are busy with election work before that. The debate can be held for a day or for many days, that is no problem for me. I will not lie to hold onto power, even if someone cuts my mouth,” the PM said.

He made these comments during an election rally held in Morawaka, Deniyaya yesterday. The PM said he is the only person legally entrusted with summoning Parliament, and not the Speaker. “I met the Speaker on Friday and told him I will send the necessary paperwork by Monday, to summon Parliament on Feb.8,” he said. Earlier this week, Party Leaders decided to hold debates on the two Commissions’ Reports on Feb.20, 21.
