The Ministry of Education (MoE) stated that the current shortage of textbooks will be resolved by mid February. The MoE Media Spokesperson told the Education Times there was a shortfall of about 1 million textbooks in December. However, it has been made up to a large extent, and expect the remainder of the textbooks to arrive next month.

He said the shortfall is because of the delay by the printing institutions including the State printing department. The deadline given to the printers by the MoE was end November. Hence, they will be fined by the MoE for their failure to meet the deadline.

He said that students are not required to purchase their books, as the Ministry will be providing them in due course. However, if teachers and academics insist on the requirement, then they will have to purchase the textbooks.
