Dr. Damendra Porage was elected Deputy Secretary General of the International Buddhist Confederation during its second General Assembly held in New Delhi, India, recently.

The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is an umbrella organisation of Buddhists representing 40 countries. IBC’s mission is to gather the collective wisdom of Buddhists from all over the world to speak as one voice to promote Buddhist values and practices. Most Ven. Bellanwila Wimalaratne Thera was elected to one of the eight positions as Hony President of the confederation for the next three years.  Also from Sri Lanka, Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha was elected Secretary and Ven. Dr. Nuwara Eliya Chandrajothi Thera as assistant secretary. Mr. Porage is also President of the Sri Lankan Tibetan  Buddhist Brotherhood Society.
