The High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Embassy to Maldives, in partnership with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sri Lanka, and the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies will present a special screening of ‘Anatomy of Violence’ and panel discussion with Academy award nominated Director Deepa Mehta at the Cinema Hall of the BMICH on January 9 from 3.30 -7 p.m.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on ending gender-based violence with Deepa Mehta, Dr. Neelam Chowdhry, Senel Wanniarachchi – Hashtag Generation, and Ambika Satkunanathan.  The panel will be moderated by Jayanthi Kuru-Uthumpala.

‘Anatomy of Violence’ is the latest work of Deepa Mehta, the Oscar-nominated Canadian filmmaker whose emotionally resonating, award-winning films have been viewed   around the globe. Her films include the Elemental Trilogy: Earth, Fire, Water, the final film of which received an Oscar nomination for best foreign language film, Bollywood/Hollywood, Heaven on Earth and the epic adaptation of Midnight’s Children – Salman Rushdie’s Booker Prize winning novel.  She has just received her star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cinema at the Reykjavík International Film Festival.
