3 months time for tea promo plan

Cabinet approval has been granted to the Sri Lanka Tea Board (SLTB) to come up with a strategic plan over the three months for the long, delayed Rs.4.8 billion promotional campaign of the tea industry.

Promotions of the tea sector are still being worked out since the management is not happy in spending large sums on just one campaign without proper planning.

In this respect, the SLTB has requested for a 3-month time frame to come up with a strategic thinking of the campaign, the board’s Chairman Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda told the Business Times on Tuesday.

He noted that this time frame was required since the markets that were identified previously would not be needed today and as such they would need to accommodate the new media as well into the planning process.

The identified countries under the new tea promotion plan would be China, Japan, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Russia, the UK and the US, he said adding that they were also trying to once again attract Pakistan as well.
